Police say the suspected gunman, Tyler Brown, also exchanged fire with law enforcement before surrendering.

2. Harvard College faculty to vote on limiting number of As for students (boston.com) — Harvard College faculty, based in Cambridge, are voting this week on a proposal to cap A grades in undergraduate courses in an effort to curb grade inflation. The plan would generally limit As to about 20 percent of a class plus four students, adjust how honors are calculated, and more clearly communicate grading standards to employers and graduate schools.

3. Gillette Stadium head fights back against World Cup parking ‘misinformation' (bostonherald.com) — Cambridge stands out as one of only two Massachusetts groups granted a FIFA license so far to host official World Cup watch events, despite 17 organizations receiving state funds. As Gillette Stadium prepares for massive crowds and clarifies parking and tailgating rules, local communities like Cambridge are still waiting on broader viewing-license decisions and related state grants.

The weekend continues Saturday with the Kellogg Lecture on “Rejecting Eurocentric Christianity” at the Sheraton Commander Hotel, bringing prominent justice advocates and theologians into the city.

5. Senator renews push for mandatory 25-year sentence for shooting at police after Cambridge incident (boston25news.com) — A recent shooting on Memorial Drive in Cambridge has prompted a state senator to revive a bill requiring a mandatory 25-year sentence for anyone convicted of shooting at and trying to kill a police officer. The proposal, backed by the Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association, targets cases like the suspect previously paroled after a shorter sentence, and could influence how future violent offenses affecting Cambridge are punished.
