5. Senator renews push for mandatory 25-year sentence for shooting at police after Cambridge incident (boston25news.com) — A recent shooting on Memorial Drive in Cambridge has prompted a state senator to revive a bill requiring a mandatory 25-year sentence for anyone convicted of shooting at and trying to kill a police officer. The proposal, backed by the Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association, targets cases like the suspect previously paroled after a shorter sentence, and could influence how future violent offenses affecting Cambridge are punished.
