Boston-based Burger Restaurant Opening New Location In Cambridge

The new spot has an expanded menu and dining area.

CAMBRIDGE, MA — A Boston restaurant known for its smoked burgers is introducing a new concept in Kendall Square later this month.

BRED Brands will officially open BRED Bar on Thursday, July 23, at 730 Main St. in Cambridge. The restaurant expands on the company's BRED Gourmet concept, adding a full-service dining room, cocktail bar, lounge, and entertainment space while keeping its burgers as the featured item.

The Kendall Square restaurant features a 3,000-square-foot space with seating for about 80 guests, including a 50-seat dining room and a 30-seat lounge with a 12-seat bar. In addition to lunch and dinner service, BRED Bar plans to host DJs, themed events, private functions and monthly culinary collaborations with guest chefs and local partners.

While smoked burgers remain the restaurant's signature offering, the expanded menu adds shareable appetizers, sliders, sandwiches and entrees. New dishes include honey butter cornbread, chili butter charbroiled oysters, smoked steak frites, shrimp and grits, jambalaya, Rasta pasta and smoked truffle mac and cheese. The beverage program also features craft cocktails, zero-proof drinks, beer and wine.

Chef Tambo Barrow founded BRED in Boston's Lower Mills neighborhood in 2015 after graduating from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Cambridge. The restaurant built a following for its Caribbean- and Creole-inspired take on American comfort food, particularly its maplewood-smoked burgers topped with ingredients such as fried plantains, smoked pork belly, and house-made sauces. The concept has since earned recognition from publications including Boston Magazine, The Boston Globe, and Phantom Gourmet.

The Kendall Square opening represents the next stage of the brand's growth. What was originally planned as a second quick-service BRED Gourmet location has evolved into the company's flagship concept, giving Barrow a larger space to expand the menu and create a destination that transitions from daytime dining to an evening restaurant and bar.

In addition to dine-in service, BRED Bar will offer catering, delivery, private event bookings, and full restaurant buyouts.
