Cambridge Man Found Guilty In Drug And Gun Possession Case

He is expected to be sentenced this coming fall.

CAMBRIDGE, MA — A resident has been convicted in federal court of drug trafficking and firearms offenses stemming from a cocaine sale in Revere in 2023, according to the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Massachusetts.

Abdelouahab Adel, 26, was found guilty by a federal jury of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Adel reportedly sold cocaine to a cooperating witness in Revere on Sept. 19, 2023. After the transaction, authorities arrested him and recovered a Glock Model 26 9mm semiautomatic pistol along with additional quantities of cocaine and ecstasy.

Federal prosecutors said Adel was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm because of a prior felony conviction. In 2018, he was convicted in Suffolk Superior Court of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, a crime punishable by more than one year in prison.

The cocaine distribution conviction carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $1 million. The conviction for possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum of life, to be served consecutively to any sentence imposed on the other convictions. That charge also carries up to five years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.

U.S. District Court Judge Leo T. Sorokin scheduled Adel's sentencing for Tuesday, Oct. 20.
