Cambridge Firefighter Announces Retirement After 33 Years

CAMBRIDGE, MA — After more than three decades serving the community, a longtime Cambridge firefighter has retired.

Michael Davis retired from the Cambridge Fire Department on Thursday, Aug. 27, after more than 33 years of service to Cambridge residents.

Davis was appointed to the department on July 27, 1993, and was assigned to Engine Company 4 on Sept. 12 of that year. He went on to spend his career as a member of the Porter Square Fire Station. According to the department, Davis was known for treating people with kindness while serving the city with dedication and professionalism.

Over the course of his career, Davis served through more than three decades of changes in firefighting, emergency response, and public safety in Cambridge. His tenure with the department stretched from the early 1990s through 2026. In recognizing his retirement, department officials thanked Davis for his years of service and commitment to the community and wished him and his family happiness, good health, and enjoyment in retirement.

Davis officially retired at 7 a.m. on Thursday.
