Today's riddle: I'm a rock group with 4 members; one member was assassinated. What am I? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Accused Cambridge shooter due in court on new charges (nbcboston.com) — The man accused of firing dozens of rounds on Memorial Drive in Cambridge this May, seriously injuring two people, is now facing more than 40 charges in Middlesex Superior Court. Prosecutors describe a history of violent offenses and say he used an assault-style rifle near MIT and Harvard Square, while court records detail his recent psychiatric release and alleged suicidal statements.
2. Lander concedes to Brownsberger after razor-thin state Senate recount (cambridgeday.com) — Cambridge election officials finished a painstaking hand recount that confirmed Daniel Lander's narrow districtwide loss to incumbent Sen. William Brownsberger, despite Lander maintaining a strong lead in Cambridge's four precincts. The close race turned the Cambridge recount into a live civics lesson for local students and highlighted how voters here and in neighboring communities are pressing Beacon Hill for faster action on affordability and other issues.
3. Women's Soccer Defeats Northeastern, 1-0 (gocrimson.com) — Harvard women's soccer edged Northeastern 1-0 Thursday night at Jordan Field in Cambridge, with Ólöf Kristinsdóttir scoring early and the Crimson dominating shots and possession. Local fans saw Harvard outshoot Northeastern 23-3 and preserve the shutout by splitting time between goalkeepers before the team heads to New Hampshire on Sunday.
4. In 'The Getaway Driver,' Trinity Rep Tackles True Crime During the Vietnam Era (rimonthly.com) — A new true-crime-inspired play, The Getaway Driver, is currently running at Trinity Rep and will come to Central Square Theater in Cambridge this November as part of a rolling premiere. The two-actor drama revisits a 1970 Boston bank robbery and its aftermath, focusing on both the getaway driver and a slain officer's daughter while probing political violence and personal responsibility.
