1. 2nd Man Charged In Connection With Fatal Shooting Of Cambridge DPW Employee (patch.com) — Cambridge residents are learning more about the July 4 killing of city public works employee Xavier Bautista, as a second suspect has now been charged with murder. Prosecutors say the 22-year-old Boston man will be arraigned in Cambridge District Court, while investigators from Cambridge Police, the DA's office, and State Police continue probing the fatal early-morning shooting near Norfolk Street and Broadway.
2. Cambridge braces for SNAP and MassHealth Cuts (cambridgeday.com) — Cambridge officials just approved $500,000 from the city's Federal Stabilization Fund to help about 2,400 local residents keep threatened MassHealth and SNAP benefits under new state rules. Partnering with local nonprofits, the city will fund case management, translation, application help, and outreach to prevent millions in federal food and health benefits from disappearing from Cambridge households.
3. In a high-tech moment, advocates say: More recess for kids. Maybe a lot more. (bostonglobe.com) — Cambridge elementary students currently get about 25 minutes of recess, but local parents, educators, and Representative Marjorie Decker are pushing a statewide bill to guarantee at least 30 minutes daily. Cambridge school leaders and families debate how to fit more unstructured play into already tight schedules, as advocates organize parents here to press both Beacon Hill and the School Committee.
4. Julien Baker Announces 2026 Rock Club Residency Tour (rttnews.com) — Julien Baker is bringing a three-night residency to The Middle East in Cambridge this fall as part of an 18-show rock club tour. Shows run between October 15 and November 21, with tickets limited and sold through venue box offices, and a portion of proceeds supporting an LGBTQ youth nonprofit.
