CAMBRIDGE, MA — A woman has been charged in connection with a fatal crash after fleeing an earlier collision and driving the wrong way down a one-way street.
Sosa Samura, 41, was arrested following the Friday, Oct. 16 crash at the intersection of Market and Columbia streets in the city's Port neighborhood, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan's office told Patch. The other driver, Susana Casillo, 51, of Cambridge, was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The charges include motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence, operating under the influence, second offense, operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon, leaving the scene of property damage, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and improper operation of a motor vehicle.
According to the Ryan's office, Samura was driving on Main Street shortly after 11:38 p.m. when she reportedly backed into another vehicle, causing damage. The driver of that vehicle followed Samura, who fled through several streets at a high rate of speed. She eventually reached Market Street, where she drove the wrong way down the one-way street and struck Casillo's vehicle at the intersection of Columbia Street.
When officers arrived, they observed that Samura had glassy eyes and slurred speech and detected an odor of alcohol, Ryan's office told Patch. Samura was arrested at the scene and transported to an area hospital.
Hospital blood testing reportedly showed Samura's blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.
At her arraignment, Samura pleaded not guilty to the charges. She was ordered held pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 27.
The fatal crash and the earlier collision remain under investigation.
