Canton Homes Evacuated After Gas Line Rupture

CANTON, MA — A gas line rupture prompted evacuations and an emergency response near Spring Lane and Chapman Street on Thursday.

The Canton Fire Department said a preliminary investigation found a 2-inch break. Homes along Spring Street were evacuated and Eversource Energy crews responded to the scene.

Motorists were also asked to avoid the area and use Washington Street as a detour.

"This is an active emergency situation," Canton Fire Chief Jamie Meier said. "Please avoid the area surrounding the intersection of Spring Lane and Chapman Street until we can ensure the area is safe."

The rupture remained under investigation Thursday morning. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
