CANTON, MA — Three Canton High School seniors have earned national recognition for their performance on a college-entrance exam.
Isabella Holland, Sameeksha Nair and Amish Tripathi were named Commended Students in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program based on their scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, Canton Public Schools announced on Monday.
"We are proud to recognize and congratulate our three commended students," CHS Principal Jeffrey Sperling said. "They are very deserving and true Champions of Excellence."
About 1.3 million students entered the 2027 competition by taking the PSAT/NMSQT in fall 2025 and meeting other program requirements, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
The organization identified about 50,000 high scorers nationwide, including approximately 34,000 Commended Students. Commended Students receive letters recognizing their academic promise but do not advance in the competition for National Merit Scholarships. Some may be considered for corporate-sponsored Special Scholarships.
Holland, Nair and Tripathi will be formally recognized during Canton High School's Scholastic Honors Night in May.
