1,000+ Packages Strewn Across Highway As UPS Truck Crashes

Two separate tractor-trailer crashes on I-495 in Chelmsford resulted in three injuries - and more than a 1,000 UPS packages on the road.

CHELMSFORD, MA — More than 1,000 packages were strewn across I-495 after the second of two crashes that involved tractor-trailers late Wednesday night. State police said three people were brought to Lowell General Hospital following the separate crashes, one of which included a UPS truck.

The crashes occurred around 10:30 p.m. One involved a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle, while the other involved two tractor-trailers, including the UPS truck. The truck dropped a "large cargo of parcels" - police estimated it to be well over a thousand.

UPS will send another truck to recover the packages.

Two of the three lanes were closed for clean-up and an investigation. All lanes reopened around 2 a.m.
