7-Year-Old Boy Killed In Lowell Pit Bull Attack

One of the animals involved escaped but has been located and euthanized. The other is in animal control custody.

LOWELL, MA — A 7-year-old boy was killed Saturday evening in a pit bull attack in Lowell, officials said. The boy had apparently got into in a fenced-in area where two pit bulls had been present, according to Middlesex DA Marian Ryan and Lowell Police Superintendent William Taylor.

One of the pit bulls escaped following the attack. It has been located and euthanized, the DA's Office said. The other dog is in animal control's custody.

Police received a report of an injured child at a Clare Street residence around 6 p.m. They arrived to find the child deceased.

The incident is being investigated by the Middlesex DA's Office, the Lowell Police Department, and State Police assigned to the Middlesex DA's Office. No charges have been filed.
