Musical partners for more than four decades, Ellsworth & Hicks will bring their distinctive blend of original songs, vocal harmonies, guitar, clarinet, and harmonica to the CCA!
Ellsworth & Hicks have been making music together since a chance meeting at a dinner party in 1980. Despite coming from very different backgrounds and musical influences, the two discovered a shared love of vivid lyrics, tight harmonies and homegrown songwriting. Their music draws from folk, blues, country, R&B and American roots traditions, combining thoughtful songwriting with humor, relaxed on-stage banter, and a willingness to poke a little fun at themselves — and the world around them.
Over the years, Ellsworth & Hicks have performed throughout the Northeast, in clubs, cafés, coffee, houses, libraries, bookstores, backyards, and even on barges. They have shared stages with performers, including Leon Russell, Levon Helm, Graham Parker, Maria Muldaur, Jonathan Richmond, Ronnie Earl, Bill Kirchen, “Spider “John Koerner, and Bill Morrissey, just to name a few.
Their original songs have also appeared in independent films, and their debut CD “Ask Around,” was a finalist in the Crossroads Music Awards for Contemporary Folk. As Mike Wolf of Timeout, New York wrote, “What sets this pair apart is the casual way they come across as throwbacks to a time when songwriters sought to make some sense of the world.”
