CGC Members Receive Honors
This article tells of Brenda Lovering receiving The Lifetime Achievement Award and Monica Kent receiving The Katherine Suozzo Award.

The Chelmsford Garden Club is bursting with pride over the honors given to Brenda Lovering and Monica Kent by the Northern District of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts, Inc. at the Northern District meeting. Brenda was presented with The Lifetime Achievement Award which is the Superbowl prize for Gardening. Brenda is a past President of the Chelmsford Garden Club, founder and ongoing Chair of “Daffodils for Chelmsford”, an active member of The Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts, and is an accomplished floral arranger. She was the leader of the 2016 Chelmsford Public Garden Project. Her biggest project was obtaining the necessary permits and funds to transform the former site of the Chelmsford fire station into a lovely year round vision of green grass and flowers in the summer and snow covered trees with Christmas lights during the winter.
Monica Kent was presented with The Katherine Suozzo Award in the field of Horticulture because her expertise is displayed in both her gardens and in her impressive collection of house plants. Her spectacular gardens are well-known in town and she has generously allowed the club to highlight them in Garden Visit fundraisers. Monica’s greatest contribution was to the Club’s establishment of the Chelmsford Public Garden in 2016. She was responsible for working with a consultant from Weston Nurseries to develop the plot plan, select the trees and shrubs, and oversee the planting of each. She also accommodated benches, picnic tables, and wheelchair access in the plan. The Club is a member of Garden Club Federation of MA and National Garden Clubs, Inc.
