Chelmsford Business Told To Remove 'Excessive' American Flags
The town says the company is violating a bylaw. Its response? Adding more flags to the display.

CHELMSFORD, MA – A Chelmsford business is pushing back against the town's claim of "excessive" American flags on its lawn. LAER Realty put out about 200 flags last month to honor Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. The business has had an American flag display in previous years.
But 200 flags is "excessive," according to the town, which sent the company a notice informing them they can only display a "reasonable amount" of flags.
Chelmsford's assistant town manager said in a statement to WHDH that a zoning bylaw "prohibits the excessive use of flags when displayed in connection with the commercial promotion." He added that the building commissioner does not have any bias against the display and did not order all flags to be removed.

LAER's response? They've added to the display, and residents have been placing flags of their own.
Jon Crandall, who works at LAER, told WHDH it's "not a LAER Realty thing."
