Chelmsford Public Garden Nears Completion

This article describes the status of construction for the Chelmsford Public Garden.

We are almost there! A handicapped walkway and patio has been laid by Marty’s Landscaping. The Department of Public Works has secured the picnic tables and park benches in cement and installed lights. An attractive black metal fence frames the rear of the property. These items were all paid for by the Community Preservation Funds. All of the donated trees and shrubs have been planted by Branches & Blooms, Nick’s Landscaping and Gold Star Landscaping. These companies donated their time to do this work. The Memorial granite stone with a plaque displaying the former Center School and fire station is in place. This lovely work of art was donated by Fred and Carol Merriam. An anonymous donor has given a large Chelmsford granite decorative stone which could be used as an additional seating area. Ken Kydd of Green Lawn is installing the sprinkler system then mulch and sod will follow. Chelmsford Open Space Stewards donated about 40 plants and the Chelmsford Garden Club “girls” had a jolly time planting all of them. The Club members have also hand watered all the trees and shrubs every day before the sprinkler system arrived. The Chelmsford Garden Club is a member of the Garden Club Federation of MA. This beautiful oasis in the midst of non-stop traffic says one thing – the town officials, the business owners and the citizens of Chelmsford love their town and are willing to give their time, labor and money to beautify it. Continued support and cash are needed to fine tune the project and provide upkeep. If you would like to help in any way email chelmsfordgardenclub14@gmail.com
