Chelmsford Runner Partners with Andiamo for Dana-Farber Benefit

Post-Marathon celebration and final fundraiser for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

It was all that it is cracked up to be - the long, drawn out agony of the Newton hills and the thrill of the 'right on Hereford, left on Boylston.' It is impossible to describe how the sound of strangers screaming your name in encouragement can lift your spirits above and beyond the pain in your body and doubt in your mind. It was my honor to high five every child reaching out their little hand along the course, raise my fist in unity that we are 'Boston Strong' and thank the many volunteers that make such a great unifying event possible.

Crossing the blue and yellow finish line of my first Boston Marathon is undoubtedly an unforgettable thrill. As I wear my marathon jacket, faces light up of those who share the honor of this prestigious tradition over 120 years old- a knowing wink, a proud pat on the back, and ultimately shared stories of ups and downs along the course. But there is a second finish line that has a special meaning to many of us as well, and that is completing fundraising as part of the Dana-Farber Marathon team.

We ran in memory of loved ones lost to cancer, to honor those still fighting and the incredible survivors on our team battling for their recovery. I am in awe of every single team members' dedication spanning over 6 months of training and fundraising in the fight against cancer. The sacrifices of long, bitter cold Saturday morning training runs, passing on that glass of wine with your family on Easter Sunday and even a few toenails Marathon Monday are well worth it. Every face lit up that day - runners, spectators, and even the Starbucks barista and T operator who offered me a free coffee and ride home when they saw my medal and my limp. It is so uplifting to know there is good in the world and you were a part of it.
