Chelmsford Woman Dragged By Car After Child Put It In Reverse

A mother was seriously injured when her son accidentally shifted gears while she was loading the car, police said.

CHELMSFORD, MA — A Chelmsford woman was dragged by her car Sunday after her child accidentally put it in reverse, police said. The 37-year-old North Road resident suffered serious injuries when she was struck while loading the car around 10 a.m.

Investigators said the woman's 9-year-old son accidentally shifted the car in reverse, and the mother got caught inside the door. She tried to dive for the brake pedal, but was pinned and run over by the car, according to police.

The car continued down the driveway and crossed North Road before hitting a rock wall at low speed. The woman was taken by ambulance to a Boston hospital with traumatic injuries, but was conscious and able to speak to first responders at the scene, according to police.
