CHELMSFORD, MA — An unmarked police cruiser with a loaded shotgun inside was stolen from a Chelmsford police officer's home, and authorities are "actively and aggressively" investigating, police said Thursday morning. A personal vehicle was also stolen from the officer's home overnight.

Police said both vehicles - a 2011 Ford Taurus and a Saturn wagon - were found this morning, but the shotgun was missing from the Taurus. A pistol lockbox was also stolen from the Taurus, but it was empty.

"Locating this stolen police weapon is our top priority at this time," Chief James Spinney said. (Subscribe to Chelmsford Patch and like us on Facebook for more local news and alerts.)
