Early Offensive Outburst Propels Lions to Playoff Win

Chelmsford High School pounced to a 6-0 lead early in Friday's first round game versus Lawrence and the Lions held on for a 7-5 victory to reach the quarterfinals.

The Chelmsford High School baseball team piled up the runs early and held off a late Lawrence charge, earning a first round playoff win on Friday afternoon.

Swinging freely early, the Lions piled on six runs in the opening three innings to grab the edge in the North Division 1 playoff tilt. Lawrence found new life in the fourth, however, thanks to a long three-run home run.

But the locals buckled down and sealed a 7-5 win to set up a quarterfinal meeting with either top-seeded St. John's Prep or No. 17 Malden. The game is slated for Monday at 4 p.m. with the venue to be decided.
