East of Shirley at the Java Room

East of Shirley" is a 4-piece ensemble that writes and plays songs of the road, of journeys down desert canyons and up remote mountain passes, songs of the soul that blend classic American folk, early rock, blues and roots stylings with the traveling sensibilities of Jack London, Bruce Chatwin, and Peter Matthiessen. Along the way, "Shirley" focuses mostly on performing original compositions. But any given evening will also find us covering tunes by artists from a broader storytelling landscape, including Bruce Cockburn, Steve Goodman, and Townes Van Zandt.
