Fentanyl Being Added To Cocaine In Lowell Area: Officials
The area has seen an increase in opioid-related overdoses where an opioid was not used.

LOWELL, MA – Public safety officials in Lowell are warning area residents of an increase in opioid-related overdoses where people did not use an opioid. In these cases, the people said they used cocaine, leading health officials to conclude that fentanyl is being added to cocaine in the area.
The Lowell Substance Abuse & Prevention Division urges area residents to not use cocaine alone in isolated areas and have Narcan present. Anyone experiencing unusual side effects should stop using immediately and call 9-1-1.
Anyone who witnesses an overdose should call 9-1-1 and administer Narcan, according to the department.
