Gas Drops Below $3 at Local Stations

It’s a sight that hasn’t been seen in nearly four years—$2.99 gas.

That was the price of gas at several stations in Chelmsford on Tuesday. In Westford, gas hit a low of $3.05 at the Cumberland Farms station.

Thanks in part to increased drilling production, gas prices in the U.S. on Monday averaged $3.05—the lowest figure in nearly four years, according to federal statistics. In Massachusetts, the average price was $3.13 on Tuesday.

Here were the cheapest gas prices in the Westford area Tuesday, according to GasBuddy:

• Chelmsford Gulf: $2.99
• Chelmsford Sunoco: $2.99
• Westford Cumberland Farms $3.05
• Westford Mobil $3.09
• Groton Prime Energy: $3.09
