Girls Lacrosse Honors Seniors at Last Home Game

The CHS girls lacrosse team fell to Westford Academy yesterday in a 20-13 upset, just missing the State Tournament. The team played their last home game of the season, and had posters ready for all the graduating seniors.

Westford Academy edged out Chelmsford High yesterday in a 20-13 game. The Lions honored their senior players with posters, as this was the last home game of the season.

Monica Brimley, Natalie Goodman, Alannah Busby, Cara McCartin, Molly Obendorf, Meagan Tuttle, Kelly Pickett, and Katie Markey will all play just one more game for the Chelmsford Lions before ending their high school lacrosse careers.

Despite a tough loss, the Lions played with heart for the entire game. In the first half, Johanna Cramer Kelly Pickett and Natalie Goodman aggressively made goal attempts. Five goals were made, and ten more shots attempted.

Westford picked up their game in the second half, and Chelmsford followed suit, firing another eight goals before the end of the game. The Lions were unable to keep up with the Ghosts, and their efforts were stifled in the last few minutes of play.

“We just got down too early, and when we get down too early, it’s just hard to fight back,” said Chelmsford Coach Mike Marshall. “They fought, and they all played well, but (it didn’t work out).”

Marshall said that losing too many draws did them in.

“It’s disappointing, and it knocks us out of the tournament, but we have one game left, so we have to just try to push it for the seniors, and finish on a good note,” said Marshall.

Meagan Tuttle, Cara McCartin, and Molly Obendorf all had top-notch personal games.

The Lions play Arlington next week.
