Greater Lowell Tech Student Made Snapchat Threats: PD

The teen made a violent threat on the social media app Monday night, authorities said.

TYNGSBOROUGH, MA — A student at Greater Lowell Technical High School was arrested Tuesday after he made violent threats over Snapchat, police said. The 15-year-old Lowell boy was charged with threatening to use dangerous items.

A Snapchat post where the student threatened an act of violence was reported to authorities Monday night, according to police. There was no direct reference to Greater Lowell Tech, but school officials immediately contacted police.

The student was arrested at Greater Lowell Tech Tuesday morning. The school opened without disruption.

Police did not find any weapons or dangerous items.

"Community members should be assured that there is no danger to students, faculty or staff at Greater Lowell Tech," Chief Richard Howe said in a statement. "I want to commend the school resource officers who worked on this case and quickly determined the origin of the threatening post. I wish to further recognize those who brought this threat to the attention of school administrators. Community members are our eyes and ears, and in this case, a student saw something and said something, contributing to the safety of their school community."
