Inspections of freshwater lakes are common throughout the state, with inspectors looking for levels of two types of bacteria according to state regulations: E. coli and Enterococci.
Those regulation say that E. coli levels need to be under 235 colonies per 100 ml. with a geometric mean of less than 126 colonies over the past five samples during a swimming season.

With Enterococci, the regulation states that it's 61 colonies per 100 ml. and a geometric mean of 33 colonies per 100 ml. over the past five samples during a swimming season.
Bacteria can come from a number of sources, and short term closures are fairly common.
The public portions of the lake are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the beach is open at all times, although fires, fishing, grilling and cans/glass are not permitted.
