"Kids Tag Sale", Chelmsford Mothers Club, recognizing 13 years of history, tagging and growth with upcoming sale, Saturday April 28th , 2018.
Kicking around a simple idea of having a tag sale all started in a living room of mothers 13 years ago. Thinking it might be a good idea they got busy making posters and stapling them to telephone poles around Chelmsford, shoe boxes were used for money collection and items all had hand made tags. Local churches were used to hold the sales as clothes were piled on tables, make shift racks using chairs and poles for dresses and check out was done by hand using calculators and paper. Chuckles of the days past on how things were all hand done, lots of writers cramp and the rain that always plopped on set up day.
Given all its trials and lessons learned, even name changes, today the Kids Tag Sale is now an iconic name for the CMC and the surrounding community as it has grown in many facets . Now held in a large gym at the McCarthy Middle School clothing is neatly hung on sturdy ‘Z’ racks, and an array of organized shelving and tables are set to accommodate shoes, books, toys and more. The tools of today, include consignors entering each item onto a computer program in order to make a ticket with an identifiable code, scanners are used for scanning each item and major credit cards accepted all for an expedient, efficient flow of nearly 20,000 items.

The Kids Tag Sale has also become a sophistication of operations detailed in the Committee’s organizational chart and preplanning months in advance before every biannual Spring / Fall sale.
Placing sale notices on the old telephone poles has become a thing of the past, advertising, now facilitated and managed by a person on the organizational chart, is done mostly all electronic with a very chatty face book page and website. But the “Word of mouth” so be an electronic exchange or the ole fashion way of telling v. typing to someone, the CMC’s Kids Tag Sale has grown to record numbers of customers from 700 to 1,000. Some customers have come as far as Kennebunkport, Maine and Rhode Island. Next sale Saturday, April 28th, 9-1pm. For more information kigstagsale.com or visit Facebook.
