LaCava Named Harrington Principal

LaCava was interim principal of Harrington, but now he'll take over officially.

The following was submitted by Chelmsford Public Schools.

Michael LaCava has been appointed Principal at the Harrington Elementary School in Chelmsford.  Fifty applicants applied for the position.  After detailed analysis, five candidates were initially interviewed by the district’s Search Committee.  The top three candidates were then interviewed again by Superintendent Frank Tiano and a committee of parents, school staff and administrators.

 Mr. LaCava has served in the field of education since 1992.  He began his career as a music teacher for the elementary, middle and high school levels.  Early on he moved into an educational leadership role and has been in one ever since.  Mr. LaCava came to Chelmsford Public Schools in 2005 as the Curriculum Coordinator for Fine and Performing Arts.  He held that role and added the title of Dean of Hawthorne House at Chelmsford High School for the 2009-2010 school year.  Currently, he is serving as the Interim Principal at the Harrington Elementary School.  Mr. LaCava holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and Management form Fitchburg State College.

 Mr. LaCava was notified of his appointment on Friday.  Monday morning, he was warmly embraced by his staff as Dr. Tiano announced his appointment.  Mr. LaCava is eager to continue his work helping staff and families meet the academic and social needs of the students of the Harrington School Community.
