Lady Lions Eliminated by Westford Academy

The Chelmsford High School softball team fell behind early and couldn't quite bounce back, falling to nearby Westford Academy in the opening round of the North Division 1 playoffs on Thursday afternoon.

Westford hopped on Lady Lions starting pitcher Erin O'Keefe in the opening frames, despite some strong pitching by the Chelmsford ace. Though O'Keefe and Chelmsford settled in a bit as the game went on, the Grey Ghosts still snagged a 5-2 win in the preliminary round of the postseason.

Following the setback, the Lions ended their season with a record of 9-10 on the year. The locals had entered the postseason as the No. 18 seed in the bracket, but weren't quite able to advance.

With the win, Westford Academy earned a Saturday match up against Framingham, which is 18-2 and the No. 2 seed in the playoffs.
