The Virgina Thurston Healing Garden is a support center for those who are coping with cancer. Currently serving over 165 cities and towns in Massachusetts and beyond, it is an invaluable and unique resource both during and after cancer treatment. As we are all aware, cancer is a devastating disease which has far reaching effects not only for those individuals diagnosed with cancer, but also for their families.

While a client of the Healing Garden, Linda Hair-Sullivan became aware of the difficult struggle that young mothers have when trying to nurture and provide for their children while they themselves are battling cancer. Often coping with overwhelming medication side effects, they face a monumental battle working to regain their health and strength all the while caring for those who rely on them.

In order to support these young women as they travel this difficult path, Linda established the Madonna Fund. This fund is dedicated to providing child care so that these mothers can have peace of mind knowing that their children are being cared for while they are undergoing treatment or recuperating at home. There is no other resource that specifically supports children during their parent’s illness. The fund seeks to provide not only child care, but positive, balancing experiences for children and mothers such as membership to the YMCA, summer camp, or healthy lifestyle classes at the Healing Garden. Margaret Koch, Executive Director of the Healing Garden states, “I am deeply grateful for this initiative. It is and will be tremendously helpful to our clients in need.”

Please join us in this unique opportunity to ease the burden and light the path forward for these struggling families. Your sponsorship, donation and/or presence at “Lighting the Path”, our fundraiser, will show these families that they are not alone.

Thank you on behalf of the Virginia Thurston Healing Garden, the Madonna Fund, and all those whose journey forward you are supporting.
