Chelmsford's No. 9 pre-season rated varsity football team opened up its season on a crisp fall evening Friday night against out-of-conference foes the Waltham Hawks at Leary Field.

The Lions' next game is against Acton-Boxborough Regional High School Thursday at 7 p.m. at home.
