"The Chelmsford Art Society was created in 1970," said Helen Moriarty, president of the Art Society. "There was a group of artists who put up an art show for the 4th of July celebrations in Chelmsford. After their success with the show, they decided to start an art society."
A Member's Art Exhibit is featured in December, giving the Society an opportunity to enjoy each other's artwork during the holiday season. By signing up for a membership, artists have the opportunity to display their own artwork in local businesses. They also have the chance to show off their brush strokes to the public through their local art shows and competitions.

"Many artists have taken advantage of exhibiting in the Town Offices, Summer Place Retirement Residence, the Chelmsford Library and other various businesses in the area," said Moriarty.
The art society is looking to find a permanent place to hang their hat—office and gallery space, as well as gallery space to sell art.
"It is currently a great place for the Art Society, being located across the common. We are in charge of presenting the 4th of July Art Show each year, and it is in a strategic place for all the festivities," said Moriarty. "For our future, hopefully, we will continue to foster art in the Chelmsford and surrounding areas."
