May 2, 2014-Eight local attorney’s visited McCarthy Middle School today to meet with the 8th grade students. The focus for today’s discussion was “American Democracy and the Rule of Law: Why Every Vote Matters”. In accordance with the 50th anniversaries of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, attorney’s encouraged students to reflect on the importance of the right to vote for every citizen. In addition, students learned about some of the day to day experiences of lawyers as well as the role that they play in our society. Students had an opportunity to interact with the attorney’s over the course of the period.
We greatly appreciate the time and effort of the attorneys and planners involved in bringing Law Day to McCarthy. As a district, we are committed to expanding opportunities for our students and staff to interact with community members. We all have something to share!
