LOWELL, MA — Two firefighters were reportedly hurt and 38 residents were displaced after a four-alarm fire swept through a mixed-use building in Lowell on Sunday morning. The blaze broke out around 9 a.m. near High and East Merrimack streets, media outlets reported.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames after more than an hour. Photos taken from the scene showed flames and thick, dark smoke shooting through the roof of the large green building, which sits on the corner of the intersection. At least three firetrucks were at the scene and firefighters could be standing outside the window of one of the rooms.

Fire Chief Jeff Winward told WBZ the building was confusing and battling the blaze proved difficult. Two firefighters were hurt, multiple media outlets reported.
