Lowell Manhunt For Murder Suspect Lasts 30 Hours: ICYMI

Ross Elliott shot a woman to death in Lowell then led police on a 30-hour manhunt that ended Friday afternoon.

LOWELL, MA — The manhunt for Lowell murder suspect Ross Elliott this week stretched 30 tense hours, ending with the grisly discovery of Elliott's body with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Elliott, 51, shot Nicole White, 44, to death Thursday at about 7:30 a.m. in Lowell on Stevens Street. His body was found in a vehicle in Chelmsford on Research Place Friday at about 1:30 p.m.

Elliott, armed with a handgun, ran across half of Lowell eluding authorities. At one point, an off-duty firefighter found Elliott hiding under his motorcycle cover; Elliott pointed his gun at him and ran off. Police issued a shelter-in-place order for the Highlands section of the city during the search.

Elliott was considered "armed, dangerous and increasingly desperate," Lowell police Chief William Taylor said during a news conference just hours before a woman found Elliott's body.
