Memorial Day 2016: Weekend, Holiday Forecast In Chelmsford

Weather forecasters have made their predictions for Memorial Day weekend. Here's what you need to know.

CHELMSFORD, MA — If you're planning on spending time outside on Memorial Day, you may want to bring an umbrella with you.

Memorial Day is a weekend for paying tribute to our fallen soldiers, the unofficial start of summer and the day to break out your freshest pair of white pants. 

But the weather may not cooperate with the festivities.

Showers and thunderstorms could threaten outdoor activities and travel plans during the extended weekend, according to the a Weather.com forecast. As of Wednesday's forecast, storms and showers are expected to hit Chelmsford Friday morning, Saturday afternoon and Monday throughout the day.

While each day is not expected to be a washout, area residents will need to be prepared to bring outdoor celebrations inside at the first sound of thunder.

But despite the rain, temperatures will remain in the 70s and 80s throughout the weekend, according to Weather.com. 

Here is the complete forecast:

Friday: Scattered thunderstorms in the morning will give way to cloudy skies later in the day. High temperature will be around 85 degrees. There will be a 40 percent chance of precipitation.

Friday night: Few clouds, with a stray chance of a shower or thunderstorm. There will be a 20 percent chance of precipitation with a low temperature around 62 degrees.

Saturday: Partly cloud with afternoon thunderstorms or showers. Forecast predicts a high temperature near 91 degrees.  There will be a 40 percent chance of precipitation.

Saturday night: Few clouds, with a low around 64 degrees.  There will be a 20 percent chance of precipitation.

Sunday: Cloudy with a high of 76 degrees. Chance of precipitation will be 20 percent.

Sunday night: Cloudy, with low temperature of 55 degrees. Chance of precipitation will be 20 percent.

Memorial Day: Cloudy with occasional showers. Thunder is a possibility. Forecast calls for a high temperature near 80 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Monday night: Partly cloudy with a low around 61 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
