Motorcyclist Dies After I-495 Crash In Chelmsford
A Maine firefighter was identified as the victim of the fatal crash.

CHELMSFORD, MA – A motorcyclist died following a crash with a sedan on I-495 in Chelmsford Monday afternoon, state police said. David Mains, 48, of Raymond, Maine, was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Mains' passenger, a 48-year-old woman also from Raymond, Maine, was hospitalized with serious injuries. Raymond Fire & Rescue confirmed on Facebook that Mains was a decorated captain who had been honored as firefighter of the year. Jen Mains was the passenger injured in the crash and is expected to recover, according to the department.
State police said Mains' motorcycle, a 2007 Yamaha XVS, crashed into the back of a 2016 Mercedes-Benz C450 sedan around 3:30 p.m. in the left lane of I-495 North. The driver of the Mercedes, a 56-year-old Andover woman, and her passenger were uninjured.

Investigators believe the Mercedes slowed down due to traffic right before the crash.
Two northbound lanes on I-495 for about an hour and a half Monday afternoon while emergency crews responded, according to police.
