Nomination Papers Now Available for Chelmsford's 2016 Town Elections

If you're considering a run for town office in 2016, nomination papers are now available. Here's a look at what positions are open.

Nomination papers are now available for positions that will be elected during Chelmsford’s 2016 Annual Town Election.

The open positions include the following:

  • BOARD OF SELECTMEN -- Two seats for three years
  • SCHOOL COMMITTEE -- Two seats for three years
  • PLANNING BOARD -- Two seats for three years
  • PLANNING BOARD -- One seat for two years (unexpired term)
  • BOARD OF HEALTH -- One seat for three years
  • TRUSTEES of PUBLIC LIBRARY -- Two seats for three years
  • CEMETERY COMMISSION--- One seat for three years
  • CONSTABLE -- One seat for three years
  • HOUSING AUTHORITY -- One seat for five years

In addition each precinct has six open seats for three-year terms as TOWN MEETING REPRESENTATIVES. (See the announcement from the town for specific details on these positions).

Town-wide candidates, both incumbents and challengers, must obtain a minimum of 50 signatures from registered voters in order for their nomination papers to be valid. The Clerk strongly recommends all candidates obtain additional signatures.

Non-incumbent Town Meeting Representative candidates must obtain 25 signatures from the precinct they wish to represent. Again, the Clerk strongly recommends all candidates obtain additional signatures.

Town-wide candidates are entitled to eight blank nomination papers. Town Meeting Representative candidates are entitled to four blank nomination papers.
