Opening Pushed Back to August for Chelmsford Diner
Chelmsford's newest business was expected to open in July, but has a new opening date in mind after some equipment delays.
Terry Langone has been eyeing an opening in the Summer Street plaza location for several years. So having to wait a few more weeks to open her new business is just a speed bump.
Langone originally planned to open Chelmsford Diner in the former Aubuchon Hardware location towards the end of July. But equipment delays have forced an opening that will likely come on August 5. Still, Langone is excited about what’s to come.
“The walls might not be perfectly decorated when we open, but the food will be awesome,” said Langone. “I love the restaurant business. You can have fun with the people and get to know your neighbors. It’s been awesome. I haven’t really even advertised and people have still been stopping by, peeking their head in to see what’s going on.”

Chelmsford Diner is tentatively scheduled to be open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays following its opening day.
In the days leading up to the August 5 opening, Langone said she will hold practice runs with her staff. In addition to working with her daughters, Langone will also employ a variety of wait staff that has worked for her in the past. As a result, she expects things to run smoothly from the start.

“I know them, I’ve worked with them. So everyone knows me, knows my methods, and knows what I expect from them,” said Langone. “Service is the big thing. I’m sure we’ll have some issues as we get smoothed out, but the emphasis here is on service and fun. It’s just a good place to go whether you’re wearing a business suit or you’re looking for something more casual.”
In addition to nearly everything on the menu being made from scratch, there will be items such as smoothies and sparkling water that is purified on location.
Langone said customers will feel a touch of home when they come to Chelmsford Diner.
“It’ll definitely be like mom is cooking,” said Langone, who said the diner doesn’t even feature a deep fryer. “It’s going to be good food, relatively quick, and made to order. We have one microwave. But I don’t expect it to get a heck of a lot of use.”
