Parker Students Receive Recognition From York, Maine

Students wrote about their favorite restaurants, authors, musicians, sports teams, vacation spots, and even about NatGeo.

Parker Middle School’s 5th grade students completed an opinion writing assignment in December. The students in Mrs. Leonard’s English Language Arts classes wrote letters detailing something they consider to be a “favorite” of theirs, in an effort to encourage her to try, or check out, in 2015. Students wrote about their favorite restaurants, authors, musicians, sports teams, vacation spots, and even about the National Geographic Society. The letters were emailed, along with a cover letter from Mrs. Leonard explaining the assignment along with the students’ original letters to the person or establishment that the student favored. Students have received mail back from Fenway Park, Disney World, Boston University, the Patriots, and notably today, key chains with the Town of York, Maine’s official seal for the entire class! The students were surprised and pleased with this generous gift from York, Maine’s town manager! The key chains were in response to fifth grade student Courtney Markham’s well written letter describing her vivid reasons for loving visiting York, Maine.
