Lions Boys Ice Hockey Falls to Westford, 5-2

Jessie Lye and Billy Kamenides both put up goals for Chelmsford.

The Chelmsford High School Lions came up short against the Westford Academy Grey Ghosts Saturday night at Chelmsford Forum, 5-2.

The Lions were unable to stop Westford junior forward Ian Speliotis, who put three pucks behind junior goaltenders Brad Alber and Derek Noble.

The Grey Ghosts found the back of the net first when Jay Drapeau scored just two minutes and 19 seconds into the first period. Speliotis would then add to the lead with goals five minutes and 20 seconds after Drapeau's, and again two minutes and 29 seconds after that.

The Grey Ghosts again scored on Lions netminder, even after a change from Alber to Noble to start the period, when Speliotis completed the hat trick four minutes and 45 seconds into the second. The Lions would answer with their first point on the board 58 seconds later.

Chelmsford started the third period on a power play after a tripping call late in the second period, but could not capitalize. The Grey Ghosts put a shorthanded fifth goal past Noble 48 seconds into the third.

Chelmsford's Billy Kamenides scored with three minutes and 28 seconds left in the third period, but it wasn't enough to keep the Lions from taking the loss.

The Lions will take to the ice again on Thursday in Waltham at DCR Veterans Memorial Rink in Waltham at 7 p.m.
