'Rolling Roadblocks' This Week on 495 in Chelmsford: UPDATE

Lane closures and even traffic stoppages will take place as part of the Hunt Road Bridge Reconstruction project.

There will be overnight "rolling roadblocks" on I-495 in both directions in Chelmsford this week, MassDOT announced.

The roadblocks will take place between Exit 32 (Boston Road) and Exit 33 (Route 4).

MassDOT delayed the project a day and extended its end a day, now starting Tuesday night. Multiple lane closures will take place nightly from 8 p.m. - 5 a.m. until Friday morning.

The roadblocks will allow the contractor to install steel beams as part of the Hunt Road Bridge Reconstruction project over I-495

Beginning at 8:00 p.m., one high-speed lane on I-495 North and South will be closed, with a second adjacent lane closed at 11:00 p.m., MassDOT said.

One travel lane will remain open in both directions except when a “rolling roadblock” is taking place - between midnight and 4 a.m. The roadblocks will stop traffic for a short period of time.
