Sale Of UMass Lowell's Chelmsford West Campus Ok'd By Governor

The legislation also allows UMass Lowell to receive $1.1 million from the town's purchase of the Chelmsford Forum ice rink.

CHELMSFORD, MA – Gov. Charlie Baker signed legislation last week clearing the sale of the University of Massachusetts - Lowell's West Campus in Chelmsford.

The legislation allows the commissioner of capital asset management and maintenance, in consultation with the university's chancellor, to "sell; lease for terms of up to 99 years, including all renewals or extensions; or otherwise grant, convey or transfer to one or more purchasers or lessees" an interest in the 32-acre property at 225 Princeton St.

The legislation also allows the university to receive $1.1 million from the town's purchase of the Chelmsford Forum ice rink, a provision that took Chelmsford officials by surprise, according to the Lowell Sun.
