Softball Season Comes to an End
The Chelmsford High softball team lost in a 2-0 upset to Central Catholic at Alumni Stadium in Lowell.
The Chelmsford High softball team lost after an upset in tournament action Friday against fifth seed Central Catholic 2-0, a team they beat twice in the regular season.
The Lions, lead by veteran coach Bruce Rich, went 19-1 in the regular season.
"We haven’t been this far in a few years, we are happy to get here, obviously we would have liked to have went further, but we lost to a very good team. There is no shame in that. We’ll keep our heads up, and many of our kids will be back next year," said Rich.

Both teams played excellent defense; Central only managed to get five hits, while Chelmsford got on base three times. In a game that looked like it might go into extra innings, neither team had scored any runs until the top of the seventh. In the last inning, Central players hit two singles, and a double to drive in two runs.
"They had five hits in the game, and they put three together," said Rich.
