My name is Dennis King and I would like to announce my intention to run for a seat on the Chelmsford School Committee in the upcoming election.
I have been a resident of Chelmsford for most of my life and have resided at my current Bridge Street address with my wife, Dana and three children, Maggie, Abbie and DJ for the past 23 years. I am a 1983 graduate of Chelmsford High school. Upon leaving Chelmsford High I attended Boston University, earning a bachelor's in Biology, and UMass Lowell where I received my Master's degree in Education with a concentration in curriculum and instruction. After graduation I worked as a Science teacher in the Methuen Public School system for 12 years before moving to my current position at Central Catholic High School in Lawrence where I have served as the Curriculum Coordinator for Science, Physical Education and Health Education as well as a classroom instructor for the past 17 years.

As a resident of Chelmsford I have been involved in numerous activities including serving as a volunteer coach at the youth sports level in softball, baseball, soccer, field hockey and wrestling. I was involved in the library building project several years back and was a member of the Chelmsford Special Education PAC when my daughter was younger. I also worked as a manager and assistant manager at Russell Mill Swim and Tennis club on Mill Road in the summers for over a decade. I have a strong background in school operations, budgeting, personnel management and evaluation and experience with a large building project at my current workplace. I am well informed on issues related to special education, with my oldest daughter having received services from pre-k up until her graduation from Chelmsford High School in 2011, and in regular education as my other two children attended both Center School and McCarthy middle school.
I believe my experience as an educator for over 29 years along with my life long connection to Chelmsford as a student, parent of three children who went through the school system and a volunteer within the community will serve me well as a member of the school committee. I respectfully ask for your support in my run for a position on the Chelmsford School Committee.
