Youth Leadership Program changed lives of youths

Youth sharing stories from New Life Toastmasters Club sponsored "2017 Summer FREE Youth Leadership Program."

Thank you for New Life Toastmasters Club (http://www.graceemp.org/nltmc/) to sponsor “2017 Summer FREE Youth Leadership Program(YLP)” from July 9 to Aug. 27. The Toastmasters Club member, Marina Lam (ALS, ALB), received the support of Youth Pastor, Nathan Willems, to coordinate the YLP for 6 sessions every Sunday from 1:30pm to 3:30pm at Chinese Bible Church of Greater Lowell (www.lowell.church), 197 Littleton Road, Chelmsford, MA 01824.

It was a big success for training youths (Age: 11 to 17) at local communities. The number of participants have grown from 15 to 26 within 4 weeks. On the last session, a father and his son rushed to YLP and wanted to join YLP right away. It was a great encouragement and honor for YLP Team to serve the youths. The youth parents were eager for their sons and daughters to join competent communication and leadership program for making sure their sons and daughters know how to communicate, especially in the digital age. Every kids use his/her mobile phone to text, instead of speaking face to face and having eye contacts.

There were so many encouraged stories reported from youth parents:

  1. One mother mentioned that she never saw his son speaking in public before. They moved from Philadelphia to Massachusetts. His son was a quiet person. Now, he was willing to present two speeches and be table topic speakers at the meeting. She was very pleased with YLP.
  2. One father mentioned that he never knew his son loves cat so much. They gave a dog to their daughter. His son was always quiet at home but he was willing to register YLP himself for speaking his thinking. No wonder his father was happy.
  3. One family moved from other country back to USA recently. The eldest son presented his first speech without any feeling. After the speech evaluation, he changed and delivered his second speech with good research with great content. His sister was quiet and timid. The coordinator encouraged her to speak at table topic session. First time, she spoke one sentence at her impromptu speech. At second meeting, she spoke three sentences and all participants evaluated her as the most improved table topic speaker. At third meeting, she spoke with beautiful voice with a good organized presentation. The coordinator almost had tears in her eye for seeing the life changing stories in front of her eyes.
  4. Another father appreciated the YLP. He noticed his daughter was able to get a lot of fund-raising support by speaking to her neighborhood boldly.
  5. Another mother mentioned that her son introduced himself at his Karate class by himself because his teacher forgot to introduce him formally. This was because he was formally introduced before his presentation at YLP.

May God bless the youth to be competent communicators and leaders in their school and church. May God bless the youths to have good communication with their parents, friends and classmates. May God open doors to change the lives of youth through the Lowell Youth Fellowship at Chinese Bible Church of Greater Lowell, and New Life Toastmasters Club. Pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
