Workers Credit Union updates checking accounts and adds feature to help its members save

Workers Credit Union updates checking accounts

Workers Credit Union has renamed its popular checking accounts, to better reflect their features and benefits.

“We are always striving to make banking easier and want the features and benefits of our products and services to align with their names,” said Doug Petersen, president and CEO of Workers Credit Union.

The new names include: Simple Checking, formerly known as Just Checking; Free Checking, previously called Student Checking; and High Interest Checking, formerly Xtreme Checking.

“Our members will still enjoy all the features connected to their account; we just updated the account names to better reflect what they’re all about,” Petersen said.

The credit union also added a new feature that allows everyday purchases made with their debit card, for those who opt into the program, to round up to the next dollar and have it transferred to their savings account.

“When a member enrolls into ‘Debit Roundup,’ it automatically saves money into their savings account. It is a great way to save money. For example, if a $4.45 purchase is made, $5 will be transferred from their checking account; $4.45 pays for the purchase and .55 cents is transferred into a savings account,” Petersen said.

All existing checking accounts were renamed on October 2.

Workers Credit Union, home of the $3.3M GiveBack program, is headquartered in Fitchburg, Mass. With assets of $1.5 billion, the credit union serves over 93,000 members from sixteen offices in Acton, Chelmsford, Fitchburg, Gardner, Groton, Lancaster, Leominster, Lunenburg, Orange, Townsend, Westford and Workers Online at workerscu.com.
