Belmont Resident Throws Out Ceremonial First Pitch at NH Fisher Cats Game

Michael Guglielmo was recently honored as a recipient of the Bellwether Community Champion Award, presented to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to their community. Michael is an ambassador for DKMS America, an organization that empowers individuals to register to donate bone marrow. On July 29th, Guglielmo threw out the ceremonial first pitch at a New Hampshire Fisher Cats game and was celebrated during an on field pregame presentation.

Guglielmo’s son, Giovanni, passed away at the age of five from complications of a rare genetic immune disorder.  He was determined to find a way to help other children diagnosed with immune diseases.  Guglielmo and Giovanni’s mother, Christina became donor recruiters for DKMS America and helped organize 660 bone marrow drives and register 55,000 donors in memory of Giovanni.  Guglielmo also developed the idea to place electronic kiosks in public areas to educate people who are interested in donating bone marrow and allow them to sign up for easy at-home testing.  These kiosks are now located at Manchester Harley-Davidson, Spider Bite Salon in Manchester, the YMCA, Office Suites and Trilogy Hair Salon in Concord.
