"Under the Branches" - A Meet & Greet Featuring Works By Victoria & Lawrence Elbroch

Artisans Way in Concord center welcomes artists Victoria and Lawrence Elbroch on Saturday, October 18 from 12-5pm.Their show, "Under the Branches," includes both Victoria's printmaking and drawing, and Lawrence's photography. They attribute their collaborative work to their loving relationship and a shared inspiration. Reveling in their different ways of seeing ancient trees, Victoria works in a sketchbook plein air and Lawrence takes photographs from the same angle. The two forms of a single image are then expertly blended to arrive at one unique, composite view of their individual interpretations. These are the pieces that are especially featured in the "Under the Branches" collection debuting at Artisans Way.

Born in England, Victoria emigrated to America in 1973. She studied printmaking at the University of Oklahoma, spending three years working with master printmaker, Loraine Moore. She specializes in mixed media drawing with ink and collage and two printmaking mediums, monotype, and photopolymer etching. She has won numerous awards for her prints and drawings and was awarded the 2019 Piscataqua Artist's Advancement Grant.Since receiving the grant, she has spent time in the UK drawing meticulously researched ancient trees. She is a member of Zea Mays Printmaking Studio, The Boston Printmakers, and The League of New Hampshire Craftsmen.

Lawrence Elbroch, born in New York City, is self-taught photographer with strong technical skills. His interest in texture, shadow and light has carried over into the printmaking medium. Lawrence's work has been published in Artscope Magazine (March/April 2023) and Photographer's Forum Magazine annual "Best of Photography" edition multiple times. He has received awards for his work including a commendation from the Sony World Photography Awards.

In addition to the UK, Lawrence and Victoria have traveled extensively to places including India, Tibet, and Nepal. These travels have led to more collaborative works where her drawings are meshed seamlessly into his photographs.

To the Elbrochs, trees hold profound significance. The strange, gnarly bark and peculiar anatomy of ancient trees fire their imaginations and Victoria and Lawrence draw parallels between the trees and all they hold dear—wisdom, family, connections, shelter, and resilience. They hope that their work, beyond being beautiful, serves as a reminder of the crucial role trees play in the increasingly warming planet and that people will be intrigued enough to see trees and the natural world as their fellow inhabitants.
