1. More than pocket change needed for proposed pocket park (concordbridge.org) — Neighbors in West Concord want a small pocket park carved out of a new subdivision near Highland and Main Streets and are seeking Community Preservation Act funding. With land costs estimated at $770,000 and a 2028 deadline to buy, supporters are organizing, fundraising, and courting town boards as the Community Preservation Committee reviews competing proposals this winter.
2. Schools examining tech use across multiple cohorts (concordbridge.org) — Concord parents and school officials are launching two new technology committees this October to scrutinize how digital tools are used in local classrooms. With concerns ranging from cellphones to educational software, the groups will gather data, involve students and parents, and help shape clearer, more intentional tech practices across Concord's schools.
3. 'Safe by design': Roads strategy depends on unspecified funding (concordbridge.org) — Concord's new Comprehensive Transportation Strategy lays out a long-term plan for safer streets, better bus service, and improved walking and biking connections around town. While no projects are funded yet, officials will prioritize more than 100 safety ideas, including Route 2 intersections and village centers, with Town Meeting voters ultimately deciding which improvements move forward.
4. A broken powered wheelchair left a Massachusetts man stranded. Getting it fixed is a bigger problem. (cbsnews.com) — A Concord man with cerebral palsy has been stranded for months after his powered wheelchair broke, highlighting how insurance rules and repair delays can leave residents isolated. After media pressure, he received a temporary loaner, while proposed state and federal laws aim to speed wheelchair repairs and reduce prior-authorization hurdles for people in similar situations.
