Author Elise Hooper to give talk at Concord Free Public Library

Author Talk

CONCORD – Author Elise Hooper will discuss her newest book, The Other Alcott, at the Concord Free Public Library on Thursday, September 14th at 7 p.m. The event will take place in the Periodical Room of the Main Library at 129 Main Street.

THE OTHER ALCOTT is an Indie Next Pick for September and PopSugar named it one of its 25 Books to Read This Fall.

Many of us grew up knowing the story of the March sisters, heroines of Louisa May Alcott's LITTLE WOMEN. While most fans cheer on Jo March (a character based on Louisa herself), youngest sister Amy March is often the least favorite. Now, it's time to learn the truth about the real "Amy": Louisa Alcott's sister, May. Author Elise Hooper gives readers a glimpse into the youngest Alcott's artistic pursuits and her side of the sibling rivalry.

Praised by Elisabeth Egan as a "writer to watch," Elise Hooper's historical fiction debut is a distinctive and enjoyable read, which will include samples of May Alcott's original (and panned!) illustrations for LITTLE WOMEN. NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Tara Conklin calls THE OTHER ALCOTT "a delightful, moving book about the strength of women, the impetus of creativity and the indelible bond between sisters... More than ever, we need books like this – in celebration of a woman overlooked by history, one whose story helps shed light on our own contemporary search for love, identity and meaning."

Although a New Englander by birth (and at heart), Elise Hooper lives with her husband and two young daughters in Seattle, where she teaches history and literature.
